Technical Requirements

Participants must have a computer with the following requirements:

A computer which meets the minimum system requirements, listed here or below.

An internet connection of 256Kbps (512Kbps recommended). That is well below the speed of most DSL or cable connections.

A microphone and speakers. A headset is preferable to reduce background noise and feedback loops. Students speak with one another and with the professor using their computer microphone. An integrated headset which has both a microphone and headset is highly recommended to reduce background noise and feedback loops. We recommend a USB integrated headset from logitech, but many others are on the market, too.

Adobe Flash Player version 10.1 or greater (free from the Adobe website, click here).

The ability to download and read documents in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format (free download, click here).

 

Test your computer system

Click on the button, below, to test whether your computer has a compatible version of Adobe Flash Player, whether you can connect to the Syracuse University computer servers, whether your connection is fast enough to participate in live seminars, and whether you have installed the Adobe Connect Add-in (an optional piece of software which enhances performance.

 

Optional Browser Add-In

The Adobe Connect Add-in is a specialized version of Flash Player, required for the following functionality in an Adobe Connect Meeting Room: Screen sharing, Offline recording (FLV format), Sharing a supported file by dragging it into a share pod, and enhanced audio and echo cancellation. It is a free download, offered to you the first time that you enter the Adobe Connect classroom that we use for weekly seminars. We recommend that you accept it.   • Note that simultaneous teleconference activity is restricted when using a carrier that does not support simultaneous data and voice. Attending via the Adobe Connect™ Mobile app is recommended.
